There was a surprise result in Madrid where seventeenth ranked CB Canarias (2-5) won against higher ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (3-4) 94-85 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 20-11. But Baloncesto Fuenlabrada won second period 28-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. CB Canarias made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Montenegrin center Blagota Sekulic (210-82) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points and 7 rebounds. American point guard Davin White (186-81, college: CS Northridge) helped adding 16 points and 5 assists. At the losing side guard Alex Urtasun (193-84) responded with 19 points and Belgian-Congolese point guard Jonathan Tabu (189-85) scored 11 points and 5 assists. Five CB Canarias and four Baloncesto Fuenlabrada players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. CB Canarias moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with UCAM Murcia and Sevilla. Loser Baloncesto Fuenlabrada dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. CB Canarias will face higher ranked La Bruixa d'Or (#12) in Manresa in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
