Regular Season Round 9: Medacbasket - Cordoba 65-62

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Malaag where 4th placed Cordoba (3-2) was edged by fifth ranked Medacbasket (3-2) 65-62 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Cordoba won third quarter 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Cordoba 38-24 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was center Jose Maria Del Rio (203-91) who scored 14 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Forward Pablo Ibanez (198-93) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Medacbasket's coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Guinean forward Cheick Sekou Conde (203-92) who recorded 25 points and 7 rebounds and American Matt Devine (201-91, college: Westfield St.) added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Medacbasket moved-up to third place in Group D-East, which they share with Cordoba and Velez. Medacbasket will face Velez (#4) in Velez-Malaga in the next round. Cordoba will play on the road against CAM E.Soler in Melilla and hope to win that game.
