Regular Season Round 13: Niigata R. - Toyota A. 45-85

Bottom-ranked Niigata R. (0-13) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 85-45 loss to fifth ranked Toyota A. (9-2) in Tokyo on Saturday evening. The game without a history. Toyota A. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Niigata R. to just 1 points in second quarter. Toyota A. held Niigata R. to an opponent 22.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 42.1 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Niigata R. 65-33 including a 32-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. International forward Mika Kurihara (178-89) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and center Mori Binge (180-88) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. Toyota A.'s coach Don Beck felt very confident using entire bench saving starting five for next games. At the losing side swingman Sangi Kanade (169-86) responded with 17 points and guard Inamoto Satoko (165-84) scored 3 points and 6 assists. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Toyota A.. They moved-up to fourth place. Niigata R. lost their thirteenth game in a row. They still close the standings with 13 games lost. They share the position with Haneda Vickies. Toyota A. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Niigata R. will play again against Toyota A. (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
