Regular Season Round 7: Civitanova - Viareggio 60-41

Not a big story in a game when bottom-ranked Viareggio (0-7) was outscored by tenth ranked Civitanova (3-4) in Civitanova Marche 60-41 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Civitanova. Viareggio was better in second period 14-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Viareggio to just 6 points in fourth quarter and to 14 points in second half. Civitanova forced 27 Viareggio turnovers and outrebounded them 38-22 including a 15-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Quite impressive performance for guard Veronica Perini (175-88) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 7 rebounds. Swingman Marica Gomes (168-78) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Guard Federica Iannucci (175-93) answered with 11 points and center Elena Bindelli (180-90) added 7 points in the effort for Viareggio. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Civitanova maintains tenth place in A2 with 3-4 record. Newly promoted Viareggio still closes the standings with seven games lost. Civitanova will face league's leader Ferrara on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Viareggio will play against Brindisi (#13) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
