Very predictable result in Santoago de Comp where eighth ranked Blusens Monbus (4-3) edged 17th ranked Asefa Estudiantes (1-6) 73-71 on Sunday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-13. But Asefa Estudiantes won second period 24-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Blusens Monbus made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American-Irish guard Donnie McGrath (193-84, college: Providence) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 6 assists. Polish swingman Adam Waczynski (199-89) helped adding 17 points. At the losing side the former international forward Nacho Martin (203-83) responded with 10 points and 8 rebounds and guard Jaime Fernandez (186-93) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Blusens Monbus moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Bilbao Basket. Asefa Estudiantes lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the sixteenth position with six games lost. Blusens Monbus will face higher ranked FIATC Joventut (#5) in Badalona in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Asefa Estudiantes will play on the road against Unicaja Malaga (#9) and hope to win that game.
