Regular Season Round 9: Estudiantes L. - Vigren 73-80

No shocking result in a game in Lugo where fifth ranked Vigren (3-1) defeated 10th ranked Estudiantes L. (1-3) 80-73 on Sunday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-14. But Estudiantes L. won second period 19-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Estudiantes L. 52-23 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was British Matthew Don (201-93, college: Cameron) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds. American forward Michael Balkovic (198, college: Caldwell, agency: Dynamics Global Management) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds. Vigren's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Congolese center Gullit Mukendi (203-96) who recorded 17 points and 5 rebounds and Montenegrin center Milo Vukcevic (200-96) added 17 points respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vigren moved-up to second place in Group A-B, which they share with Chantada and Agustinos-Eras. Estudiantes L. lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. Vigren will face Agustinos-Eras (#4) in Leon in the next round. Estudiantes L. will play on the road against the league's leader Mieres BVM (#1) and hope to win that game.
