Very expected game when 9th ranked Gigantes (4-8) lost to fourth ranked Abejas (6-4) in Guanajuato 89-95 on Sunday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The winners were led by the former international point guard Steve Monreal (180-86, college: CS Monterey) who scored that evening 31 points and 5 assists and American-Jamaican forward McHugh Mattis (198-84, college: S.Florida) supported him with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Even 24 points and 4 assists by American swingman Tim Pickett (192-81, college: Florida St., agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. International forward Edgar Garibay (208-90, college: Long Beach St.) added 18 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gigantes' coach tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Abejas maintains fourth position with 6-4 record. Loser Gigantes dropped to the eighth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Santos. Abejas will meet Ciudad (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Gigantes will have a break next round.
