Very expected game in Cancun where 8th ranked Santos (4-9) were crushed by third ranked Pioneros (9-2) 104-85 on Thursday. The game without a history. Pioneros led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Santos' players. International guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (183-86, college: W.Kentucky, agency: Pro Sports) fired 22 points and 4 steals (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international forward Jesus Hiram Lopez (205-83, college: SW Baptist) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds. Four Pioneros players scored in double figures. American guard Mark Borders (188-82, college: Tampa) produced 15 points and 5 assists and the other American import forward Chris Cayole (201-85, college: St.Michael's) added 20 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Pioneros. They moved-up to second place. Newly promoted Santos dropped to the ninth position with nine games lost. They share it with Indios. Pioneros will again meet at home Santos (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Santos will have a break next round.
