Regular Season Round 7: Mogi - Rio Claro 68-63
Date: November 27, 2015
There was no surprise when 16th ranked Rio Claro (1-6) lost to second ranked Mogi (4-2) in Mogi das Cruzes 63-68 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Rio Claro trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 20-13 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 63-68 at the end of the game. Quite impressive performance for American forward Tyrone Curnell (203-88, college: Valdosta St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Mogi players scored in double figures. The former international guard Guilherme Pereira (190-91) answered with 18 points and 4 steals and the former international Andre Stefanelli (196-84) added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Rio Claro. Rio Claro's coach Dede Barbosa tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Mogi. Despite that victory Mogi went down to third position due to points difference, which they share with Flamengo and Franca. Rio Claro lost their sixth game in a row. They stay at the bottom place with six games lost. Mogi will face Brasilia (#6) on the road in the next round. Rio Claro will play against Vivo/Franca (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
