Regular Season Round 3: Al Ahli - Al Rayyan 57-94

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Rayyan (#4) and Al Ahli (#7). Al Ahli was crushed at home by 37 points 57-94 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game without a history. Al Rayyan led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Al Rayyan forced 21 Al Ahli turnovers and outrebounded them 39-21 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Dominic James (180-86, college: Marquette) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 8 assists. His fellow American import center Kwame Alexander (201-90, college: CS San Bernar.) accounted for 14 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side. Four Al Rayyan players scored in double figures. Al Rayyan's coach Stergios Koufos felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Togolese guard Jimmy Williams (196-86, college: Alders.-Broad.) came up with 23 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Lamar Roberson (203-86, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Haylett Sports) added 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Al Ahli in the defeat. Al Rayyan's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Qatar Sports Club.
