Regular Season Round 10: Villarrobledo - Azuqueca 72-75

Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Azuqueca (5-2) edged on the road 14th ranked Villarrobledo (1-6) 75-72 on Saturday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Azuqueca made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Villarrobledo outrebounded Azuqueca 34-18 including 23 on the defensive glass. Villarrobledo was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Faronte Drakeford (201, college: Cent.Conn.St.) scored 22 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Leroy Isler (196-91, college: UALR) chipped in 20 points and 4 steals during the contest. At the losing side American center Garrick Sims (203-91, college: Lake Erie) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and guard Michael Torres (188-95) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Villarrobledo's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Azuqueca have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place in Group B, which they share with Tenerife Naut. Loser Villarrobledo keeps the fourteenth position with six games lost. Azuqueca will face Gran Canaria (#9) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Villarrobledo will play against Alcazar (#5) and hope to win that game.
