Regular Season Round 7: Avenir - Tarbes 72-73

The most exciting game of round 7 in the LF2 took place in Chartres. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 6th ranked Avenir (3-4) to second ranked Tarbes (5-1) 73-72 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 12-9 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Tarbes dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Avenir's 28. Tarbes forced 20 Avenir turnovers. It was a great evening for the former international center Elodie Bertal (191-84) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. American guard D'lesha Lloyd (179-86, college: Clemson, agency: Regeneracom Sports) helped adding 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side Slovakian forward Simona Podesvova (186-83) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Joelly Belleka (163-95) scored 15 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Avenir's coach Benoit Marty rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tarbes have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 5-1 record behind leader Aulnoye. Avenir at the other side dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Tarbes are looking forward to face Reims (#4) at home in the next round. Avenir will play against LTB 29 in Pleyber-Christ and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
