Regular Season Round 9: Getafe - Lucentum 65-54

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Meridiano Alicante (6-3) against fourteenth ranked Getafe (2-7) on Sunday night. Visiting Meridiano Alicante was defeated by Getafe in Madrid 65-54. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Meridiano Alicante. It looked good early as Meridiano Alicante took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Getafe had a 19-12 second period charge getting the lead and Meridiano Alicante was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 54-65. Getafe made 18-of-22 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Uruguayan-Greek forward Maximiliano Sole (198-88, agency: Duran International) stepped up and scored 9 points for the winners and point guard Alvaro Martin (181-92, agency: Duran International) chipped in 12 points. The best for the losing side was American-British center Kaj-Bjorn Sherman (213-92, college: UTSA, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and Cameroonian center Johan Kody (207-93) scored 6 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Getafe maintains fourteenth place with 2-7 record. Meridiano Alicante at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Getafe will play against higher ranked CB Tarragona 2017 (#8) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Meridiano Alicante will play against Cambados (#10) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
