Regular Season Round 11: Qingdao E. - Jilin NE T. 114-101

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 17th ranked Jilin Tigers (3-8) were defeated on the road by eighteenth ranked Qingdao Eagles (3-8) 114-101 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Qingdao Eagles. Jilin Tigers was better in third quarter 26-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Jilin Tigers 51-34 including a 21-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Jilin Tigers were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American center Alan Williams (203-93, college: UCSB) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 24 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Jonathan Gibson (188-87, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Three Eye Sports) helped adding 39 points (!!!) and 6 assists. Qingdao Eagles' coach XiaoBin Gong let to play all 12 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American swingman Marcus Williams (200-86, college: Arizona, agency: Interperformances) responded with 35 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds (was perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line !!!) and guard Jinming Cui (193-92) scored 26 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Qingdao Eagles moved-up to sixteenth place, which they share with Bayi R. and Jilin NE T. Jilin Tigers lost fourth consecutive game. Qingdao Eagles will face higher ranked North Control (#12) in Beijing in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
