Regular Season Round 7: Franca - Pinheiros 70-84

Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Pinheiros (5-2) defeated 14th ranked Vivo/Franca (4-2) in Sao Paulo 84-70 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by Pinheiros. Vivo/Franca was better in fourth quarter 29-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pinheiros dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Vivo/Franca's 32. They outrebounded Vivo/Franca 48-23 including a 37-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Quite impressive performance for American guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). His fellow American import guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Pinheiros players scored in double figures. Forward Antonio Ferreira (178-94) answered with 21 points and point guard Matheus Costa (179-80) added 6 points and 8 assists in the effort for Vivo/Franca. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Pinheiros. They moved-up to second place. Loser Vivo/Franca dropped to the third position with two games lost. Pinheiros' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Sao Paolo Paulistano.
