Regular Season Round 9: Trefl Sopot - AZS Koszalin 65-62

A very interesting game took place in Sopot. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of higher ranked AZS Koszalin (6-5) to seventeenth ranked Trefl (2-8) 65-62 on Tuesday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It looked good early as AZS Koszalin took a 10-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Trefl took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 3 points. They also forced 22 AZS Koszalin turnovers. 28 personal fouls committed by AZS Koszalin helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American point guard Tyreek Duren (183-91, college: La Salle) nailed 19 points for the winning side and guard Piotr Smigielski (190-89) accounted for 12 points. American point guard A.J. Walton (184-90, college: Baylor) came up with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and the other American import guard Ra'shad James (188-90, college: Kaiser) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for AZS Koszalin in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Trefl moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Slask Wroclaw and Start Lublin. AZS Koszalin at the other side keeps the eighth position with five games lost. Trefl's next round opponent will be higher ranked Twarde Pierniki (#4) in Torun and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
