There was a minor upset in Wulguru where 7th ranked Cairns Taipans (5-8) were defeated by seventh ranked Townsville Crocodiles (5-11) 90-76. The game was mostly controlled by Townsville Crocodiles. Cairns Taipans was better in third quarter 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Cairns Taipans 42-29 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Jordair Jett (188-91, college: St.Louis) nailed 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and power forward Nicholas Kay (205-92, college: Metro St.) accounted for 16 points and 12 rebounds. Five Townsville Crocodiles players scored in double figures. American forward Torrey Craig (198-90, college: USC Upstate) came up with 18 points and 7 rebounds and the former international forward Mark Worthington (203-83, college: Metro St.) added 14 points respectively for Cairns Taipans in the defeat. Cairns Taipans' coach tested ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Townsville Crocodiles maintains seventh place with 5-11 record. Cairns Taipans lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Townsville Crocodiles' next round opponent will be higher ranked Adelaide 36ers (#5) in Findon and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
