An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Auckland. Third ranked New Zealand Breakers faced second-best Perth Wildcats. Host New Zealand Breakers (9-5) smashed guests from Perth (10-5) 99-78. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 99-78. New Zealand Breakers dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Perth Wildcats' 34 and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. The best for the losing side was American guard Jermaine Beal (191-87, college: Vanderbilt) with 23 points, 6 assists and 4 steals and the former international power forward Matthew Knight (204-85, college: Loyola Mary) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains third place with 9-5 record having just three points less than leader United. Loser Perth Wildcats keep the second position with five games lost. New Zealand Breakers will meet at home bottom-ranked Kings (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Perth Wildcats will play against Kings (#8) in Sydney and hope to secure a win.
