Regular Season Round 8: Rio Claro - Franca 83-55
Date: December 3, 2015
There was a small surprise when sixteenth ranked Rio Claro (2-6) rolled over at home 14th ranked Vivo/Franca (4-3) 83-55 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Rio Claro. Vivo/Franca was better in fourth quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rio Claro dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Vivo/Franca's 26. Rio Claro forced 22 Vivo/Franca turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Vivo/Franca's players. The former international guard Guilherme Pereira (190-91) orchestrated the victory by scoring 11 points, 7 assists and 5 steals. The former international Guilherme Teichmann (206-83, college: Tulsa) contributed with 10 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Rio Claro players scored in double figures. Joao Pedro Demetrio (208-95) replied with 7 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Matheus Costa (179-80) added 9 points in the effort for Vivo/Franca. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Rio Claro moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Caxias do Sul. Loser Vivo/Franca keeps the fourteenth position with three games lost. Rio Claro will face higher ranked SKY/Basquete (#8) in Aldeota in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Vivo/Franca will play at home against Sao Jose/Vinac (#7) and hope to win that game.
