Regular Season Round 16: Halc.Rojos - Pioneros 74-83

An interesting game for Pioneros (12-2) which played road game in Veracruz against 4th ranked Halcones Rojos (7-9). Second ranked Pioneros managed to get a 9-point victory 83-74. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-8. But Halcones Rojos won third quarter 21-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The winners were led by the former international Hector Hernandez (205-85, college: Fresno St., agency: Pro Sports) who scored that evening 14 points and 7 rebounds and American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) supported him with 16 points (made all of his eight free throws). Four Pioneros players scored in double figures. Even 19 points and 5 rebounds by American-Puerto Rican Michael Rosario (190-90, college: Florida) did not help to save the game for Halcones Rojos. American swingman Devin Sweetney (198-87, college: St.Francis, PA) added 16 points for lost side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Pioneros have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 12-2 record having five points less than leader Soles. Halcones Rojos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with nine games lost. Pioneros will meet bottom-ranked Panteras (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Halcones Rojos will play against Ciudad (#9) in Ciudad Juarez and hope to secure a win.
