Regular Season Round 7: Provence Basket - Souffel 66-68

A very interesting game took place in Fos-sur-Mer. It ended with only two-point home defeat of higher ranked Provence Basket (3-4) to thirteenth ranked Souffelweyersheim (3-3) 68-66 on Friday evening. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 16-7. But Provence Basket won third quarter 22-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Souffelweyersheim won last quarter 19-18. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Provence Basket to just 7 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Provence Basket 34-22 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Matthew Gibson (195-84) who helped to win the game recording 9 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Naturalized Mali power forward Nianta Diarra (205-93) contributed with 10 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Souffelweyersheim's coach Stephane Eberlin allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Swingman Raphael Desroses (199-80) answered with 12 points and 4 assists and American center LaRon Dendy (205-88, college: Middle Tenn.St., agency: Octagon Europe) added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Provence Basket. Four Provence Basket players scored in double figures. Souffelweyersheim have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with St Chamond. Provence Basket at the other side dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. Souffelweyersheim's next round opponent will be higher ranked JL Bourg (#4) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Provence Basket will play against Lille Metropole (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
