Regular Season Round 9: Valga - Tarvas 82-104

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 6th ranked Valga (4-5) was crushed at home by seventh ranked BC Rakvere (4-5) 104-82. Valga was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. BC Rakvere dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Valga's 24. They outrebounded Valga 37-22 including a 25-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. BC Rakvere shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Serbian swingman Maksim Kovacevic (196-87, agency: Alti Sport) nailed 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and Latvian Roberts Stumbris (194-93) accounted for 16 points and 7 rebounds. BC Rakvere's coach Andres Sober felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international center Viljar Veski (215-86) came up with 21 points and the former international point guard Kristo Saage (187-85) added 19 points respectively for Valga in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. BC Rakvere moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated Valga. BC Rakvere will play against TTU (#8) in Tallinn in the next round. Valga will play at home against the league's leader Rapla and hopes to get back on the winning track.
