Regular Season Round 9: La Spezia - Empoli 71-55

Very expected game when 9th ranked Empoli (3-5) was defeated on the road by leader La Spezia (8-0) 71-55 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by La Spezia. Empoli was better in second period 22-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was Latvian power forward Lauma Reke (185-86, college: St.Peter's) who scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Laura Reani (183-96) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was guard Francesca Rosellini (176-90) who recorded 13 points and Francesca Fabbri (175-88) added 12 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for La Spezia. Newly promoted La Spezia maintains second place with 8-0 record behind leader Broni. Empoli at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. La Spezia will face San Pietro (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Empoli will play against Ancona (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
