Regular Season Round 8: Olimpi - MIA Academy 54-73
Date: December 5, 2015
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Tbilisi: MIA (#7) and Olimpi (#4). Olimpi was smashed at home by 19 points 54-73 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Olimpi. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when MIA's pressure prevailed and they won that period 20-5 extending their advantage to 19 points. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Olimpi to just 5 points in fourth quarter. They outrebounded Olimpi 49-28 including a 37-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by American power forward Maurice Lewis-Briggs (203-90, college: Slippery Rock, agency: Mansfield and Associates) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Ioseb Lezhava (185-91) supported him with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. MIA's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 10 points and 9 rebounds by American guard Jeremy Bynum (193-88, college: Jacksonville St.) did not help to save the game for Olimpi. Serbian center Milan Oluic (210-84) added 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks for the hosts. Defending champion maintains seventh position with 1-7 record. Olimpi at the other side keeps the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Dinamo Tbilisi. MIA will play against league's second-placed Kutaisi at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Olimpi's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Sokhumi.
