Regular Season Round 11: Azkoitia - Conquero 70-80

Bottom-ranked Azkoitia is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 11th consecutive match to third ranked Conquero (8-3) 80-70 on Saturday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Conquero. Azkoitia managed to win fourth quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Conquero dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Azkoitia's 40. They outrebounded Azkoitia 43-28 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for the former international power forward Maria Pina (187-87) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. American center Talia Caldwell (188-91, college: California) accounted for 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Four Conquero players scored in double figures. Venezuelan point guard Roselis Silva (166-91, college: Arkansas Tech, agency: Gamble Sports Management) came up with 25 points and 7 rebounds and Russian power forward Mariya Davydova (190-93, college: FIU) added 18 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Azkoitia in the defeat. Azkoitia's coach Joseba Guesalaga rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Conquero. They maintain third place with 8-3 record having just two points less than leader Avenida. Azkoitia lost their eleventh game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Conquero will meet at home Gran Canaria (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Azkoitia will play against Gernika (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
