Regular Season Round 9: Apollon Patras - PAOK 69-68

A very close game took place in Patra (derby !!!) between Apollon Patras and PAOK. Thirteenth ranked Apollon Patras (3-6) got a very close home victory over higher ranked PAOK (3-5). Apollon Patras managed to escape with a 1-point win 69-68 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of PAOK. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. The best player for the winners was American point guard Kevin Dillard (183-89, college: Dayton) who scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). American-Guinea-Bissau point guard Perry Petty (185-88, college: UTRGV) chipped in 23 points and 6 rebounds. Petty is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Sofoklis Schortsanitis (206-85) who recorded 15 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) and power forward Vangelis Margaritis (203-82) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively. PAOK's coach Soulis Markopoulos rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Apollon Patras moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser PAOK dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. Apollon Patras will meet higher ranked Aris (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. PAOK will play against Lavrio (#12) and hope to secure a win.
