Regular Season Round 9: Marghera - Bolzano 74-69

Not a big story in a game in Venezia where 13th ranked Bolzano (2-7) was defeated by ninth ranked Marghera (4-5) 74-69 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Bolzano won third quarter 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Marghera made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Bolzano turnovers. The best player for the winners was naturalized Argentinian guard Laura Nicolini (174-75) who scored 18 points and 4 assists. Guard Erika Striulli (170-90) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Polish-French center Karolina Piotrkiewicz (190-84, college: Liberty) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and guard Elena Zambarda (180-87) added 18 points respectively. Four Marghera and five Bolzano players scored in double figures. Marghera moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Civitanova. Bolzano at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost. Marghera will face higher ranked Vicenza (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bolzano will play against Team Crema (#3) and hope to win that game.
