Regular Season Round 9: Nishinomiya S. - Hitachi SR 79-88

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (11-4) beat bottom-ranked Nishinomiya S. (2-15) in Hyogo 88-79 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Nishinomiya S. won third quarter 32-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Hitachi Sunrockers won last quarter 25-18. It was a good game for international power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85) who led his team to a victory with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) contributed with 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and guard Tadahiro Yanagawa (183-86) added 23 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Nishinomiya S.The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Hitachi Sunrockers. They moved-up to fourth place. Nishinomiya S. lost their sixth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will face Tsukuba R. (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Nishinomiya S. will play against Hokkaido L. in Saporro and hope to win that game.
