Regular Season Round 9: SEQ - Bendigo 88-97

Very expected game when 6th ranked SEQ (6-6) lost to second ranked Bendigo Spirit (9-5) in Crestmead 88-97 on Sunday. SEQ trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 22-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 88-97 at the end of the game. It was a great shooting night for Bendigo Spirit especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for the former international Belinda Snell (180-81) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. International center Gabrielle Richards (191-84, college: Oregon) contributed with 27 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Five Bendigo Spirit players scored in double figures. Nigerian-American Ify Ibekwe (187-89, college: Arizona, agency: LBM Management) answered with 31 points and 6 rebounds (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field) and guard Lauren Mansfield (170-89, college: Iowa St.) added 18 points and 7 assists in the effort for SEQ. Bendigo Spirit have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 9-5 record having just -1 point less than leader Perth. SEQ lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with six games lost. Bendigo Spirit will face Boomers (#7) in Melbourne in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. SEQ will play on the road against Adelaide Lightning and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
