No shocking result in a game when third ranked Sydney Uni Flames (8-4) beat on the road bottom-ranked Canberra Capitals (0-11) 82-76 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Canberra Capitals won fourth quarter 21-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sydney Uni Flames made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. Sydney Uni Flames outrebounded Canberra Capitals 34-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. Canberra Capitals were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for international guard Katie-Rae Ebzery (177-90) who led her team to a victory with 16 points. American forward Joslyn Tinkle (190-90, college: Stanford) contributed with 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Sydney Uni Flames players scored in double figures. Sydney Uni Flames' coach Shannon Seebohm used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Renee Montgomery (170-86, college: Connecticut, agency: LBM Management) answered with 26 points and 4 assists and the former international center Abby Bishop (189-88) added 26 points in the effort for Canberra Capitals. Sydney Uni Flames maintains third place with 8-4 record behind leader Perth. Loser Canberra Capitals still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Sydney Uni Flames will face Townsville Fire (#4) at home in the next round. Canberra Capitals will play against Boomers (#7) in Melbourne and hope to get finally their first victory.
