Regular Season Round 9: FIATC Joventut - Unicaja 84-90

There was a minor upset when 7th ranked FIATC Joventut (5-4) lost to ninth ranked Unicaja Malaga (5-4) in Badalona 84-90 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 90-84. Unicaja Malaga dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to FIATC Joventut's 34. It was a good game for French Edwin Jackson (191-89, agency: Comsport) who led his team to a victory with 18 points. American-Georgian Will Thomas (203-86, agency: Two Points) contributed with 14 points for the winners. Four Unicaja Malaga players scored in double figures. American guard Brandon Paul (193-91, college: Illinois) answered with 25 points and Bosnian-Croatian center Goran Suton (208-85, college: Michigan St.) added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for FIATC Joventut. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Unicaja Malaga moved-up to sixth place, which they share with FIATC Joventut and Rio Natura Mnb. FIATC Joventut lost their third game in a row. Unicaja Malaga will face league's second-placed Regal FC Barcelona at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
