Regular Season Round 10: Flamengo - Pinheiros 79-83

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Flamengo (6-3) against fifth ranked Pinheiros (6-4) on Thursday night. Host Flamengo was defeated by Pinheiros in a tough game in Rio de Janeiro 79-83. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Flamengo. It looked good early as Flamengo took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Pinheiros had a 24-16 second period charge getting the lead and Flamengo was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 79-83. Pinheiros dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Flamengo's 28. They outrebounded Flamengo 42-31 including 32 on the defensive glass. Pinheiros brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) notched 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and forward Renan Lenz (206-90, college: Utah) supported him with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Five Pinheiros players scored in double figures. Even 25 points by the former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) did not help to save the game for Flamengo. The former international Marcelo Machado (201-75, agency: Interperformances) added 9 points and 6 assists for lost side. Pinheiros moved-up to fourth place. Defending champion Flamengo keeps the third position with three games lost. Pinheiros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Flamengo will play on the road against Minas in Belo Horizonte and hopes to get back on the winning track.
