Very predictable result when third ranked New Zealand Breakers (10-5) won against bottom-ranked Kings (3-11) in Auckland 96-84 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 59-39 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. New Zealand Breakers outrebounded Kings 51-40 including 38 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Kings' players. It was a very good performance for American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists. Fijian-New Zealand forward Mika Vukona (197-82) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. New Zealand Breakers' coach Dean Vickerman used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international guard Jason Cadee (186-91) replied with 19 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Marcus Thornton (193-93, college: William & Mary) added 17 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Kings. Five New Zealand Breakers and four Kings players scored in double figures. New Zealand Breakers have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains third position with 10-5 record behind leader Wildcats. Kings lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 11 games lost. New Zealand Breakers will face Illawarra Hawks (#4) in Gwynneville in the next round. Kings will play on the road against Illawarra Hawks (#4) in Gwynneville and hope to win that game.
