No shocking result in a game in San Fernando where fifth ranked Tinguiririca S.F. (11-9) smashed 9th ranked Universidad Catolica (8-11) 97-78 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Tinguiririca S.F.. Universidad Catolica managed to win second period 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tinguiririca S.F. dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Universidad Catolica's 28. They outrebounded Universidad Catolica 44-24 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Tinguiririca S.F. looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Brandon Crawford (201-84, college: Albion) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international center Jorge Valencia (206-77) who added 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. American forward Reginald Larry (198-86, college: Boise St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Erik Buggs (180-90, college: Valparaiso) scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tinguiririca S.F. have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Los Leones. Loser Universidad Catolica dropped to the eighth position with 11 games lost. Tinguiririca S.F. will meet CD Castro (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Universidad Catolica will play against Deportivo Valdivia and hope to secure a win.
