Regular Season Round 11: Maccabi Haifa - Maccabi Ashdod 78-74

The game in Haifa was also worth to mention about. 6th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (5-5) played at the court of seventh ranked Maccabi Haifa (5-5). Maccabi Haifa managed to secure a 4-point victory 78-74. It looked good early as Maccabi Ashdod took a 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Maccabi Haifa had a 24-10 second period charge getting the lead and Maccabi Ashdod was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 74-78. Maccabi Haifa players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for naturalized Danish guard Chanan Colman (191-84, college: Chipola JC) who led the winners and scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) accounted for 13 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Five Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. American power forward Charles Thomas (203-86, college: Arkansas) came up with 27 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and the other American import point guard Diante Garrett (196-88, college: Iowa St.) added 21 points and 5 assists respectively for Maccabi Ashdod in the defeat. Maccabi Ashdod's coach Zvi Sherf tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Maccabi Haifa moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Maccabi Ashdod. Maccabi Ashdod lost their third game in a row. Maccabi Haifa's next round opponent will be Ironi Nahariya (#6) on the road. Maccabi Ashdod will play against the league's leader Hapoel Jerusalem and hope to win that game.
