Regular Season Round 11: Minas - Flamengo 74-81

The game in Belo Horizonte was also quite interesting. Third ranked Flamengo (7-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Minas (5-6). Flamengo managed to secure a 7-point victory 81-74 on Tuesday. Minas trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 24-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 74-81 at the end of the game. Strangely Minas outrebounded Flamengo 35-19 including a 30-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Olivinha Rodriguez (203-83) who scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. The former international Marcelo Machado (201-75, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 18 points. Puerto Rican guard Isaac Sosa Carrion (190-90, college: Canisius) produced 13 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and the former international power forward Shilton Santos (198-82) added 17 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) respectively for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains third place with 7-3 record having just two points less than leader Bauru. Loser Minas dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. Flamengo will face Brasilia (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Minas will play against Macae and hope to win that game.
