Regular Season Round 7: Al Wakrah - Al Rayyan 69-93

Undefeated leader Al Rayyan delivered the sixth consecutive victory. This time they crushed 6th ranked Al Wakrah (2-4) 93-69. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Al Wakrah. The game was mostly controlled by Al Rayyan. Al Wakrah was better in fourth quarter 18-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Al Rayyan forced 20 Al Wakrah turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Al Wakrah's players. It was a quality performance for American point guard Dominic James (180-86, college: Marquette) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 8 assists. The former international forward Tanguy Ngombo (197-84) accounted for 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Five Al Rayyan players scored in double figures. Coach Stergios Koufos's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Venezuelan point guard Calvin Cage (183-84, college: Buffalo, agency: Interperformances) came up with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international center Mame Souleye (206-87) added 17 points and 13 rebounds respectively for Al Wakrah in the defeat. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Al Rayyan. Defending champion maintains first place with 6-0 record, which they share with Al Sadd. Al Wakrah at the other side keeps the sixth position with four games lost. Al Rayyan's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Sadd.
