Regular Season Round 21: Fuerza Regia - Pioneros 88-97

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Monterrey. Second ranked Pioneros faced 3rd placed Fuerza Regia. Guests from Cancun (15-2) defeated host Fuerza Regia (11-5) 97-88. Pioneros looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international Hector Hernandez (205-85, college: Fresno St., agency: Pro Sports) who scored 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (183-86, college: Kansas St.) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) who recorded 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Paul John Hernandez added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pioneros have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. They maintain second place with 15-2 record having nine points less than leader Soles. Fuerza Regia at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Pioneros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fuerza Regia will play again at home against the league's second-placed Pioneros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
