Regular Season Round 12: Army - Azad 57-79
Date: December 17, 2015
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tehran: Azad (#6) and Army (#8). Army was smashed at home by 22 points 57-79 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game without a history. Azad led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Azad outrebounded Army 41-30 including a 34-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Azad especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. The winners were led by international power forward Rouzbeh Arghavan (214-88) who scored that evening 9 points and 9 rebounds and American Tony Weeden (183-83, college: Chicago St., agency: Three Eye Sports) supported him with 17 points (perfect from downtown making all five shots). Four Azad players scored in double figures. Even 17 points by international Vahid Dalirzahan (199-95) did not help to save the game for Army. Point guard Hamed Beigi (188-95) added 7 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Azad (7-5) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Gorgan. Newly promoted Army keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with Ayandeh Sazan and Shah.Tabriz. Azad will meet at home bottom-ranked Shah.Tabriz (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Army's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tehran Chemidor.
