Regular Season Round 11: Kutaisi - Sokhumi 72-93

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Kutaisi (7-3) at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were rolled over by third ranked Sokhumi (7-4) 93-72. The game was mostly controlled by Sokhumi. Kutaisi managed to win third quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sokhumi dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Kutaisi's 30. They outrebounded Kutaisi 41-27 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Sokhumi looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. It was a great evening for American point guard Phillip Miller (185-91, college: Wiley) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 5 assists. Forward Giorgi Jgerenaia (206-90, college: N.Georgia) helped adding 16 points and 12 rebounds. Five Sokhumi players scored in double figures. Guard Levan Tsekvava (190-89) responded with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists and Azerbaijani guard Zaur Pashaev (188-83) scored 6 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Kutaisi's coach Kote Tugushi gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Sokhumi maintains third place with 7-4 record having just one point less than leader Batumi, which they share with Dinamo Tbilisi. Kutaisi at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. They share it with Batumi. Sokhumi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Dinamo Tbilisi.
