There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Empoli (7-6) defeated at home higher ranked Cassino (8-5) 83-74 on Saturday. Empoli made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Empoli outrebounded Cassino 43-29 including 33 on the defensive glass. Cassino was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Daniele Mariotti (186-84) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and forward Filippo Mascagni (195-93) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side power forward Luca Ianes (203-80, agency: SPORTlab Agency) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and guard Daniele Grilli (191-87) scored 17 points. Four Cassino players scored in double figures. Empoli moved-up to sixth place in B, which they share with Vicenza and Lecco. Loser Cassino dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. Empoli will face Maddaloni (#15) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
