Regular Season Round 12: Santurtzi - Mondragon 79-51

Everything went according to plan when third ranked Santurtzi (7-1) outleveled at home 9th ranked Mondragon (2-6) 79-51 on Saturday. The game without a history. Santurtzi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Mondragon to just 7 points in first and third quarters. Santurtzi shot 22 for 34 from the free-throw line, while Mondragon only scored six points from the stripe. Santurtzi forced 19 Mondragon turnovers and outrebounded them 52-20 including a 22-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Mondragon was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was forward Juan Torres (196-92) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Marti Gamarra (207-93) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Four Santurtzi players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Benat Barberena (204-89) who recorded 13 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Imanol Ceciaga (186-90) added 11 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santurtzi moved-up to second place in Group A-A, which they share with Easo. Mondragon lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with six games lost. Santurtzi will face Ardoi (#4) in Zizur Mayor in the next round. Mondragon will play at home against the league's leader Pielagos (#1) and hope to win that game.
