Regular Season Round 8: Al Sadd - Al Rayyan 60-65

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Al Sadd (6-1) in Doha on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by Al Rayyan (7-0) 65-60. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Al Sadd. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 22-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Al Rayyan forced 19 Al Sadd turnovers. American point guard Dominic James (180-86, college: Marquette) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 6 assists. The other American import center Kwame Alexander (201-90, college: CS San Bernar.) contributed with 6 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. International swingman Khalid Abdi (198-87) replied with 26 points and 5 rebounds and international Ali Saeed Erfan (198-83) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Al Sadd. Al Rayyan have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 7-0 record. Al Sadd at the other side keeps the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Al Gharafa and Al Jaysh. Al Rayyan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Al Sadd's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Jaysh.
