Regular Season Round 13: Azkoitia - Gipuzkoa UPV 69-94

Bottom-ranked Azkoitia (0-13) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 94-69 loss to tenth ranked Gipuzkoa UPV (5-8) in Azpeitia. The game was mostly controlled by Gipuzkoa UPV. Azkoitia was better in second period 28-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Azkoitia to just 6 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Azkoitia 43-28 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gipuzkoa UPV players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Azkoitia's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Cierra Bravard (193-89, college: Florida St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 19 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of her seven free throws). Point guard Maria Gomez (170-82) contributed with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Four Gipuzkoa UPV players scored in double figures. Venezuelan point guard Roselis Silva (166-91, college: Arkansas Tech, agency: Gamble Sports Management) answered with 26 points, 6 assists and 8 steals and Russian power forward Mariya Davydova (190-93, college: FIU) added 13 points and 15 rebounds in the effort for Azkoitia. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gipuzkoa UPV moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Ferrol and Zamarat. Azkoitia lost their thirteenth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 13 games lost. Gipuzkoa UPV will play against Zamarat (#9) in Zamora in the next round. Azkoitia will play on the road against Gran Canaria (#13) in Las Palmas and hopes to get finally their first victory.
