Regular Season Round 12: Gijon - Rosalia 99-63

There was a minor upset when 9th ranked Rosalia (1-6) was crushed on the road by twelfth ranked Gijon (1-5) 99-63 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Gijon. Rosalia was better in second period 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Rosalia to just 5 points in fourth quarter. Gijon dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Rosalia's 36. They outrebounded Rosalia 52-25 including a 38-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Edmundo Martin (204-91) who scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. Center Diego Gonzalez (200-84) chipped in 20 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Four Gijon players scored in double figures. Gijon's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Alvaro Filgueira who recorded 15 points and 9 rebounds and guard Javier Patino (190-92) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Gijon left bottom position moving up to ninth place in Group A-B. Loser Rosalia dropped to the tenth position with six games lost. Gijon will face higher ranked Leon (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Rosalia will play against the league's leader Agustinos-Eras (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
