Regular Season Round 8: Al Jaysh - Al Shamal 75-64

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Jaysh (#4) and Al Shamal (#7). Al Jaysh (6-1) won against visiting Al Shamal (1-6) 75-64. Al Shamal was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Al Jaysh made 21-of-24 charity shots (87.5 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Vernon Macklin (208-86, college: Florida) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and American-Jordanian guard Alex Legion (195-88, college: FIU) who added 21 points during the contest. Moroccan-Canadian Mohamed Hachad (194-83, college: Northwestern) responded with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and American-Nigerian power forward Alvin Mofunanya (203-87, college: Fair Dickinson) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Four Al Shamal players scored in double figures. Al Jaysh have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Sadd and Al Gharafa. Al Shamal lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Al Jaysh's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Sadd.
