Regular Season Round 24: Pioneros - Abejas 94-67

There was no surprise in Cancun where 6th ranked Abejas (7-12) were crushed by second ranked Pioneros (18-2) 94-67 on Tuesday. Pioneros dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Abejas' 28. They outrebounded Abejas 47-25 including a 35-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Pioneros looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Abejas' players. Worth to mention a great performance of international center Adam Parada (213-81, college: Cal-Irvine) who helped to win the game recording 13 points and 9 rebounds and the former international forward Jesus Hiram Lopez (205-83, college: SW Baptist) who added 8 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. Four Pioneros players scored in double figures. Pioneros' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was the former international point guard Steve Monreal (180-86, college: CS Monterey) with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and American-Jamaican forward McHugh Mattis (198-84, college: S.Florida) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. Pioneros have an impressive 14-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 18-2 record having five points less than leader Soles. Abejas lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Correcaminos. Pioneros will meet at home Gigantes (#6) in the next round. Abejas will play against Santos in San Luis Potosi and hope to secure a win.
