Regular Season Round 9: Al Shamal - Al Ahli 72-68

Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Doha: Al Shamal (#9) and Al Ahli (#8). Al Shamal (2-6) won against visiting Al Ahli (1-7) 72-68. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 24-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Al Shamal outrebounded Al Ahli 45-34 including 22 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was American-Nigerian power forward Alvin Mofunanya (203-87, college: Fair Dickinson) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 21 rebounds. Moroccan-Canadian Mohamed Hachad (194-83, college: Northwestern) chipped in 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Lamar Roberson (203-86, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Haylett Sports) who recorded 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and Ndoye Elhadj added 19 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals respectively. Al Shamal moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Al Arabi. Loser Al Ahli dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with Qatar. Al Shamal's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Arabi.
