Regular Season Round 14: Piombino - San Miniato 79-59

There was no surprise when 8th ranked San Miniato (7-7) was crushed on the road by fifth ranked Piombino (9-5) 79-59 on Sunday. Piombino outrebounded San Miniato 50-37 including a 41-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. San Miniato was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was point guard Mattia Venucci (185-90) who scored 29 points and 5 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Swingman Salvatore Genovese (198-87, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Francesco Stefanelli (190-95) produced 21 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and forward Roberto Bertolini (198-86) added 9 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Piombino maintains fifth position in B with 9-5 record. Newly promoted San Miniato keeps the eighth place with seven games lost. Piombino will face Faenza (#10) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. San Miniato will play against Monsummano and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
