The game between second ranked Pioneros (20-2) and 7th ranked Gigantes (8-14) in Cancun on Tuesday ended with biggest points difference. Pioneros outscored guests from Toluca 113-78. The game without a history. Pioneros led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Pioneros outrebounded Gigantes 47-33 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Gigantes' players. International guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (183-86, college: W.Kentucky, agency: Pro Sports) notched 34 points (!!!) and 5 assists to lead the effort and the former international Hector Hernandez (205-85, college: Fresno St., agency: Pro Sports) supported him with 12 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Pioneros players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds by American forward Howard Crawford (205-88, college: UAB) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. International forward Edgar Garibay (208-90, college: Long Beach St.) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pioneros have an impressive 16-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 20-2 record having five points less than leader Soles. Loser Gigantes keep the seventh place with 14 games lost. Pioneros will meet Ciudad (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gigantes will play against Santos and hope to secure a win.
